Jose Carmen Villagomez Torres

Jose Carmen Villagomez Torrez, 72, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the morning of May 25, 2023 at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Jose was born October 23, 1950 to parents Fulgencio Villagomez Garcia and Estasnislada Torrez in a small community near Valle de Santiago, Guanajuato, Mexico. He lived in this community where he grew up for many years and later moved to Tulelake, California where he was residing with his wife Hermelinda Alcala-De-Villagomez. Together they raised their children until moving to Marshalltown, Iowa in 2001. Jose worked at JBS on the production team for many years until he retired. After his retirement, Jose worked in the summers doing detasseling. In his free time, Jose enjoyed working on the gardens at his home, going fishing working on his home, spending time with his grandchildren, eating seafood, go dancing, give others around him nicknames, and joking around with others.

Jose is survived by, his children, Veronica Villagomez and her family, Emma Villagomez and her family, Eva Garcia and her family, Joaquin (Jasmeine) Villagomez, Erica Villagomez, Maria (Benjamin) Morales Villagomez, Efrain (Brelyn) Villagomez, and Aneida Villagomez; his grandchildren, Ayanna, Abriana, Nayeli, Justin, Joaquin, Cesc, Vida, Luna, Avalynn, Amala, Lorenzo, Vanessa, Rylan, Julian, Armando, Eric, Agustin, and another baby boy on the way; many great-grandchildren; his siblings, Manuel, Jose, Yolanda, Martin, Jesus, Fulgencio, Benjamin, and Santiago; alongside other nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fulgencio Villagomez and Estasnislada Torrez; and his siblings, Estella, Ignacio, Cayetano; Juana, and Guadalupe.

Jose nació el 23 de octubre de 1950 de padres Fulgencio Villagomez García y Estasnislada Torrez en una comunidad cerca de Valle de Santiago, Guanajuato, México. Vivió y creció en esta comunidad durante muchos años antes de mudarse a Tulelake, California, donde vivió con su esposa Hermelinda Alcala-de-Villagomez. Juntos criaron a sus hijos y posteriormente se mudaron a la comunidad de Marshalltown, Iowa en el año 2001. Jose trabajó por muchos años en el equipo de producción de la empresa JBS hasta su jubilación. Después de su jubilación, José trabajó durante los veranos despanojando maíz. En su tiempo libre, a Jose le gustaba cuidar el jardín de su casa, ir a pescar, arreglar su casa, pasar tiempo con sus nietos, comer mariscos, ir a bailar, insultar a todos los que lo rodeaban y hacer bromas.

A Jose le sobreviven sus hijos/hijas Veronica Villagomez y familia, Emma Villagomez y familia, Eva Garcia y familia, Joaquin (Jasmeine) Villagomez, Erica Villagomez, Maria (Benjamin) Morales Villagomez, Efrain (Brelyn) Villagomez y Aneida Villagomez, sus nietos, Ayanna, Abriana, Nayeli, Justin, Joaquin, Cesc, Vida, Luna, Avalynn, Amala, Lorenzo, Vanessa, Rylan, Julian, Armando, Eric, Agustin, y un niño en camino, muchos bisnietos, sus hermanos : Manuel, José, Yolanda, Martín, Jesús, Fulgencio, Benjamín y Santiago; incluyendo varias sobrinas y sobrinos.

A Jose le precedieron en la muerte sus padres: Fulgencio Villagomez y Estasnislada Torrez; y sus hermanos: Estella, Ignacio, Cayetano, Juana y Guadalupe.
