Joseph Gutierrez, 18, of Marshalltown, died Monday evening, July 19, 2010. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2010, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. There will be no visitation. The family suggests that you wear comfortable, casual clothing to the memorial service. Memorials may be directed to Joeys family. Joseph David Gutierrez was born on February 13, 1992, in Peoria, Illinois. He was the son of Robert and Dana (Brandt) Gutierrez Sr. Joey and his family lived in Peoria until moving to Marshalltown in August of 2008. Joey earned his GED and was enrolled at MCC in the Welding program. He enjoyed going to the YMCA to play basketball and lift weights. He loved to play football, listening to music, rapping, animals, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. His favorite basketball player was LeBron James. More than anything, Joey loved his mother and sisters and was their protector. Surviving Joey is his parents, Robert and Dana, his siblings Lisa Gutierrez of Florida, Robert Jr. of Marshalltown, Jamie Gutierrez of Marshalltown, and Oscar Gutierrez of Marshalltown; his grandmother Shirley Osborn, his grandfather Oscar Gutierrez, his pet cat Patches, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. In death he rejoins his grandfather David Brandt, his grandmother Barbara Gutierrez, and his uncles Mike Gutierrez, Danny Gutierrez, David Brandt, and Johnny Taghan.
