Joseph G. Kopel, 92, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Villa Del Sol. Funeral services for Joe will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor James Snow officiating. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. until services at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed in Joes name to his family. Joseph George Kopel was born on July 1, 1921, the son of John and Frances (Pilly) Kopel. He was raised and educated in the Haverhill school district. On July 3, 1943, Joe married the love of his life, Marie Talbert, in Marshalltown, Iowa. From this union two children were born Richard and Karolyn. Joe worked for Fisher Controls for 41 years before retiring in 1982. After retirement, he found himself mowing lawns in the summer time and helping with snow removal during the winter. Joe was a member at the Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, and many bowling leagues. He had a passion for his family, fishing, hunting, golfing, and bowling. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Rick (Frances) Kopel and Karolyn Riggins; grandchildren: Lisa (Dan) Starn, Janice (Earl) Waltemeyer, and Mary (Aaron) White; great-grandchildren: Deven, Cameren and Nolan Starn, Nichole (Matt) Adelmund, Colton Burrell and Alex White; great-great grandchildren: Laycee Adelmund, and one baby boy, Aaron, who is on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, 5 sisters, 2 brothers, and one son-in-law.
