Joyce (Mrs. George) Kouba, 67, of rural Garwin, died Monday, August 25th, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines with her loving family at her side. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Immel, former pastor of the Carlton Brethren Church officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with a time of fellowship and lunch to follow at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born Joyce Darlene Kurth on June 15th, 1941, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Floyd and Gloria (Armstrong) Kurth. She received her education in Marshalltown and in California. On August 22, 1980, she was united in marriage to George Kouba in Marshalltown. They made their home near Garwin all of their married lives. Joyce was most recently retired from Wal-Mart and had previously worked at the IVH, MMSC and Totembowl. Prior to her marriage to George, she was married to Darrell Butler. To that union, a daughter Chrysse was born. Joyce will be fondly remembered for her heartfelt generosity, her love of family and friends, crocheting, reading, her vast movie and video collection and her ability to share her gift of hospitality. She will be greatly missed by George, her loving husband of 28 years, her children: Chrysse (Todd) Grothe of Tujunga, California, Kitty (Perry) Choate of Marshalltown, Patricia Kouba of Marshalltown, Daniel (Kathy) Kouba of Melbourne, Timothy (Lisa) Kouba of Marshalltown, Sally (Scott) Randall of Marshalltown and Jennifer Kouba of LeMars, 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, her siblings: Galen (Gwen) Kurth in Tennessee, Kathy Buschbom of Marshalltown, Phil Blink of Marshalltown and Terry Kurth of Des Moines, a large extended family and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her parents Floyd and Gloria, grandson Nathan and great-granddaughter Chloey.
