Joyce Arlene Long, 78, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the Iowa River Hospice Home. Funeral services for Joyce will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, Iowa with Pastor Karen Cluts officiating. Public visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, where her family will be present to greet friends. Joyce Arlene Long was born February 23, 1935, the daughter of Wilbert and Gertrude (Pfantz) Brandt and was lovingly guided by her step-father Nolan Eubank. She was raised and educated in the State Center school district, graduating from State Center High School in 1952. Joyce married Darlo Pete Long, the love of her life on April 24, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center, Iowa. To this union they were blessed with three children. Joyce was a member of the neighborhood card club. She had a passion for playing cards, cooking family meals every month, gardening and canning. She just loved to work especially in the church. Joyce taught Sunday school for 28 years, and was a part of Ladies Aid, Ladies circle, making quilts and being a part of the choir. Left to cherish her memory is her children: Steven (Nancy) Long, Cindy Britson and Craig Long (Susie Nelson); grandchildren: Dan (Jamie) Frost, Sean (Allison) Frost, Emily Long, Alicia Long, Kelsea Long, Kaeli Long and Kenrick Long; great-grandchildren: Mikaila Frost, Julia Frost, Luke Frost, Sarah Frost, Taylor Frost, Saige Frost, Grace Frost, Presley Frost, Emma Johnson and Makaya Toillion; sibilings: one sister: Roberta (John) Varnum and one brother: Richard (Jill) Brandt. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Pete of 58 years.
