Judith O’Brien, 81, of Marshalltown, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Glenwood Place in Marshalltown. Memorial services for Judy will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Monday, June 27, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Judith Martin was born on February 5, 1941 in Aurora, Iowa to Sherman and Ethel (Rose) Martin. She graduated from Independence High School in 1959. On August 22, 1959, Judy was united in marriage to James O’Brien at St. John Catholic Church in Independence. They lived in Dubuque and Jesup, Iowa for a period of years and eventually moved to Latimer, Iowa where they owned and operated the Latimer Locker. There is where Judy started Judy’s Catering and continued it for 38 years. She made delicious home-style food and frequently catered for weddings, graduations, reunions, the military (even earned a medal), Kiwanis and various other events. Judy was a Kansas City Chiefs and Iowa State Cyclones fan. She also enjoyed reading and shopping with her daughters. She was a member of New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Judy is survived by her children: Julie (Greg) Stoll, Jill (Tom) Severson, Joe (Jackie) O’Brien and Jennifer (Kenny) DeVries; twelve grandchildren: Emily Stoll, Andre Stoll, Macaiah Stoll, Brock Severson, Nicole (Brian) Benson, Amanda (Kirk) Dougherty, Luke Severson, Leigha (Tadd) Jones, Jordan (Michelle) O’Brien, Kyle (Megan) O’Brien, Justin (Rachel) DeVries, and Jacob DeVries. She also has ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Jim (Virginia) Martin, Shirley Burke, Carol Kurtz and Sharon (Terry) Fairchild. Judy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim; parents, Sherman and Ethel and her mother and father in-law.
