Julia A. Novak, 90, of Marshalltown, died April 8, 2008 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2008 at Our Lady of the Snows Shrine in Belleville, Il. A reception will immediately follow the service. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Julia and her family. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice.Born on October 24, 1917 in East St. Louis, Illinois, she was the daughter of John and Veronika (Trytka) Konieczny. She was educated in St. Adalbert School.Julia was united in marriage on September 26, 1938 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Stephen Edward Novak. The resided in East St. Louis, Illinois, moved to Marshalltown in the fall of 1962, and she wintered in Long Beach, California.She was employed at Swift Company in East St. Louis, Illinois, Independent Packing Company in St. Louis, Missouri and was employed for 25 years at the Hy-Vee in Marshalltown. Julia enjoyed quilting, Bingo, playing cards, Polka, loved to bowl and being with her family and friends. She was a member of the Polish American War Veterans, St. Henrys Catholic Church in Marshalltown and St. Adalbert in East St. Louis, Illinois.Left to celebrate her life are her children: Judy (Ed) Allen of Iowa City and Gary (Michelle) Novak of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Ryan Wenzel of Marshalltown and Tanner Wenzel of Coralville, Iowa; sisters: Veronica Sapolis of Collinsville, Illinois and Jane Starwalt of Belleville, Illinois; brother-in-law: William Monte of Troy, Illinois; as well as host of nieces, nephews and family.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband who died in 1991, one brother, and 6 sisters.
