Julie Abernathy, 60, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, at the Vila Del Sol Nursing Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services for Julie will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Julie was born on January 19, 1954, to Burnis Ray Johnson and Mary Jane (Thompson) Johnson. Julie married Randy Abernathy on April 27, 1974, at Saint Marys Church in Marshalltown, Iowa, and started her family. Julie loved working with children and also horses so it was a natural fit when she became the office manager at Quakerdales Wolfe Ranch. Working with the children and farm animals brought so much joy in her life. Left to cherish Julies memory is her husband of 40 years, Randy Abernathy; children: Jenny Abernathy of Prairie City, Iowa; Scott Abernathy of Marshalltown, Iowa; and Anthony Hinders of Marshalltown, Iowa; five grandchildren: Troy, Mark, Jacob, Justin, and Abby; and her brother, William B. (Carla) Johnson of Maryland. Julie is preceded in death by her parents, Burnis and Mary Jane Johnson; brother, Robert Johnson; and her grandson, Joel Abernathy.
