Karen (Stipanovich) Cody, age 70 of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook.

Born Karen Mae Stipanovich on October 8, 1956, the fourth of six children born to William and Juanita (Moll) Stipanovich. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1976.

Karen was united in marriage with Michael Alman, and from this union she was blessed with five children: Christopher, Shara, Lynne, Katherine, and William. During the children’s early years, Karen was able to be a stay-at-home mom. The couple later divorced.

Karen worked in hospitality – Meskwaki Bingo Casino was her main place of employment, as well as Southridge Care Facility and others. Karen was unfortunately diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at the young age of 47, which limited her working years.

Karen loved to play BINGO, often going with her children at the VFW or Moose Lodge. She adored her four-legged companion, her cat Mow Mow. The center of Karen’s world was her family – she loved her children but especially cherished her years as grandma.

In death, Karen is reunited with her parents: William and Juanita; and her cat, Mow Mow. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Chris (Sam) Alman, Shara (Josh) Coleman, Lynne (Jerry) Dolash, Katherine Alman, and William “Billy” Alman; and her grandchildren: Treyven Arp, Tavin Coleman, Nolan Arp, Isaiah Coleman, and Elias Alman. She is also survived by her siblings: Betty Stipanovich, David Stipanovich, Laura Sash, William “Bill” Stipanovich, and Kathy Shipley.

Per Karen’s wishes, cremation rites will take place. There will be a family-led celebration of life at the Riverview Community Center on Monday, October 19th from 1:30 until 3:30 P.M. This will be a potluck style gathering, please bring a dish to share if you desire. Memorial donations may be directed to an organization of your choice for Parkinson’s research or to Westbrook Acres.
