Karen Drumm, 74, of Marshalltown, passed into the presence of her Savior and Lord on the morning of Monday, September 23, 2013, at the MMSC. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 30, at the Fellowship Baptist Church with Pastor Ed Hannahs officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to her family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born Karen Joy Cook on January 13, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Otis and Charlotte (Krell) Cook. When her mother was united in marriage to Homer Tietje, he adopted the young Karen and they became a family. She graduated from the West Liberty High School in 1957.On her birthday of 1957, she was united in marriage to the young and handsome Herbert Drumm at the Christian Church in Nichols. The couple resided in Muscatine, Iowa City, Lebanon, Oregon, Atwater, California and Marshalltown during their 52 years of marriage until his passing on September 20, 2009. Karen was employed as a nurses aide, telemarketer for Sears and at the circulation desk of the Times-Republican. Faith was the foundation of her life and she was an active member of the Fellowship Baptist Church family. She enjoyed reading, watching TV, playing cards and treasured her family- all whom will miss her dearly. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kay (Jay) Cartwright, Herbert E. Gene (Linda) Drumm and Barbara (Daniel) Ramirez all of Marshalltown, Janice (Bobby) Key of Albany, Oregon and Kenneth Drumm (Laura Smith) of Marshalltown as well as 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, her siblings, Patricia Vorhies of Lockridge, Iowa, Rosie Anderson of Oregon and Judy Staats of Letts, Iowa as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, she rejoined her beloved Herbert, her parents, son James Drumm, grandson Daniel Alexander Ramirez, sister Carol Williamson and sister-in-law Susie Marks.
