Karen Kralik

Karen Kralik, 72, of Marshalltown, died late Sunday night, May 12, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown with her mom at her side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Scritchfield of the 1st United Methodist Church officiating. Born on July 16, 1940, at home north of Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Stanley and Dorothy (Spriggs) Kralik. After graduating from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1958, she received her Bachelors Degree from Simpson College in Indianola and her Masters Degree from Northwestern University. While at MHS, Karen played saxophone in the band. She taught in Des Moines for a short time and later in Freeport, Illinois for over 30 years, retiring in 1998. During the summer months, Karen enjoyed picking strawberries, playing in the municipal band, touring with the Simpson band, doing 13 craft shows, and loved playing golf. She played in the church bell choir and sang in the adult choir. Karen also enjoyed dolls and travels to Hawaii, Mexico and Europe. Karen had also been employed as a grounds supervisor and substitute teacher at the Marshalltown Public Schools. She had moved back to her hometown in 1999. Surviving is her mother, Dorothy, of Marshalltown, three cousins: Richard Davenport in Minnesota, Dave Davenport of Creston and Douglas Spriggs in Missouri as well as many great and great-great cousins and many friends. In death she rejoined her dad, Stanley who died in 1991, and an infant brother Larry Kralik.
