Karen Lea Shipley, 71 of Marshalltown, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Southridge Nursing and Rehab in Marshalltown surrounded by her family.Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family. Phone 641-844-1234.Karen Lea Sanders was born on April 7, 1940 in Marshalltown; she was the daughter of Claud Lorraine and Helen Fern (Gronwoldt) Sanders. Karen was educated in the area of her birth and then attended some classes at Marshalltown Community College. She had lived in California for 5 years and then lived in Marshalltown the next 49. She had worked at the Marshalltown Hospital as a CNA. Karen enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading but her lifelong enjoyment was her Children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 47 years, Louie Jim Shipley of Marshalltown, her daughters; Pat Shepard of Springfield ,Missouri, Darla Fordyce of Austin, Texas, Kim(Jan) Driscoll of Fruita , Colorado, Donna(Jim) Collins of Marshalltown, Terri(Larry) Pacheco of Grand Junction, Colorado, sons; Mike(Amy) Shipley of Manchester, Mark(Kim) Shipley of Marshalltown, Rick(Sandy) Weitzel of Florida, 31 grandchildren , 22 great-grandchildren ,brother; Fred(Nancy) Sanders of Marshalltown and sister; Ilene(Larry) Pieters of Marshalltown and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and the ever loving grand-dog Max.Karen was preceded in death by her parents; Claud and Helen and a daughter at birth Debbie.
