Kathaleen Shepard

Kathaleen “Kathy” Shepard, age 73, of Marshalltown, passed away at her home on Saturday, October 3, 2020.  A public visitation for Kathaleen will take place on Wednesday, October 7 at 5:00-7:00 PM at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home.  Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.  For additional information or to leave a condolence, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234. Born Kathaleen Mary Bingaman on January 3, 1947 in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary (McReynolds) Bingaman.  She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1965, the first class to graduate from the new high school building.  Kathaleen was united in marriage to Larry T. Shepard on November 15, 1969 at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Marshalltown.  She worked at Emerson – Fisher Controls briefly before staying at home to care for her three daughters.  She then worked at St. Mary’s for 10 years as a secretary, then Electronic Engineering, the Times-Republican and Adland Engraving.  Kathaleen retired from Niehouse Cleaners, where she was the familiar face at the drive-thru.  She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish – St. Mary Catholic Church and former president of the Altar and Rosary Society.  Kathaleen may have had an ornery side, but she loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved her pets and most recently had three birds: an African Gray parrot named Pepper, a caique named Nemo and a parakeet named Coconut.  Kathaleen enjoyed reading, word finds and watching TV, especially Guy Fieri on the Food Network and “Dancing with the Stars.”  She also liked watching NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Jr. was her favorite. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters:  Amy (Chad) Lawless of Marshalltown, Emy (James) Woodson of Marshalltown and Noel (Duane) Mingle of Canton, OH; grandchildren: Danielle Mingle and Jesse Mingle, both of Canton, OH, Justin Sease of Zearing, Danielle M. Lawless of Des Moines, Samantha Lawless, Christine Lawless and Danielle N. Lawless, all of Marshalltown; great-grandchildren Aaron, Mariana, Lily and one on the way; her sister Kris (Will) Neale of Maple Park, IL; brother-in-law Vern (Jan) Shepard of Marshalltown; grand-dog Maxx; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Kathaleen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry; her parents Charles and Mary; her brother Michael Bingaman and her dog, Lily.
