Kathryn Ann Prather, daughter of Robert and Karla (Kyhnn) Prather was born in Fremont, Nebraska on October 30, 1968. Kathy grew up in Le Grand, Iowa, attending school for many years at LDF, and was a proud graduate of Marshalltown High School, Class of 1987.
Kathy was a woman of strength, resilience, and unwavering positivity. Throughout her life, she faced challenges with grace and determination, never losing the light that made her so special. Despite life’s challenges, Kathy was the person who always looked for ways to help others and she knew no stranger. She had a kind heart and a giving spirit, which left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Kathy shared a loving and devoted 21-year relationship with Troy Meeks. Her family is deeply grateful for the love, care, and companionship he gave her throughout the years.
Kathy found joy in life’s simple moments, traveling to new places, attending country music concerts, fishing, and, most of all, spending cherished time with her family. These were the moments that filled her heart and created memories that will be treasured forever.
Kathy always had a sparkle that naturally drew people to her. She could brighten even the darkest moments and she did so daily. She touched countless hearts and will be missed beyond measure.
Kathy is lovingly remembered by her mother, Karla Prather of Marshalltown, Iowa; her sisters, Kristi (Jeffrey) Benesh of Le Grand, Iowa, Kimberly (Brian) Nohava of League City, Texas, and Bobbi Prather (Chris Tague) of Springfield, Illinois; her uncle and aunt David & Carol Prather, cousins Greg Prather and Shawn Prather as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Robert Frederick Prather, her grandparents George and Vera (Gale) Kyhnn, Robert Jackson Prather, and Richard and A. Jelene (Taylor) (Prather) Watkins, and her aunt Linda Prather.
We thank God for the gift of Kathy, even if it feels like our time with her was far too short. Her love and light will continue to live on in all of us. Kathy will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her strength, kindness, and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Traditions Memory Care of Newton for their many years of dedicated, attentive care and the staff at Suncrest Hospice for their loving care.
