Kathryn Ann (Richard) Thompson, age 88, of Marshalltown, passed away with the love of her family at her bedside on the evening of Friday, August 23rd, at the Unitypoint Health, Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 27th, at the New Hope Christian Church, 3901 South Center Street, Marshalltown, with Pastor Kerry Jech officiating. She will be laid to rest at a later date. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. A dinner with the family will follow the services. Vernon, OH, she was the daughter of Greek immigrant Steve Scabavea and his wife Esther (nee Davis). She received her education in the area of her birth. On June 1st, 1935, she was baptized at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Canton, Ohio. In the midst of a winter blizzard, she was united in marriage to Richard Thompson in LeMars, IA. They made their home in Minneapolis before moving to Marshalltown in the summer of 1974. Several years prior, she made an appearance on the Mr. Rogers Show as a singer, while living in Pittsburgh. She dearly loved music and sharing what talent God gave her with others. She wrote and produced five albums- one for General Mills/Gerber for a lullaby album around the world. She was a member of New Hope Christian Church since its founding. She was loved and cherished by a lifetime of family, special friends and her pets. Left to cherish her memory are Richard, her loving husband of 50 years; four children: Andrea DeVries, Stephen Thompson (former wife Karen), Valerie (Kirk) Jones and Chris (Brad) Arment; seven grandchildren- Dustin, Jesse, Ashley, Alex, Lexi, Aaron and Joshua; four precious great-grandchildren- Hallie, Grace, Elsa and Dylan; her siblings- Helen (Bob) Campbell and Andy (Shirley) Scabavea and numerous other family and friends. In death, she rejoins her parents.
