Kathy M. Humbers

December 22, 1958 — February 28, 2025

Kathy (Croskey) Humbers, age 66 of Toledo, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Premier Estates of Toledo.

Born Kathy Marie Croskey on December 22, 1958 in Marshalltown, the daughter of Melvin “Pete” and Winifred (Warnell) Croskey. Kathy graduated from South Tama High School in 1977. She went on to Marshalltown Community College, where she earned her nursing degree.

In 1998, Kathy was united in marriage with Ron Humbers. The couple built their home in Toledo. They later divorced.

Kathy worked as a nurse for 30 plus years; she worked at the Marshalltown Hospital, Grinnell Hospital, Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama, and the Iowa Veterans Home. She retired from the Iowa Veterans Home in 2015, due to health complications.

Kathy was an active supporter of the ARL and a past President of the Tama County Humane Society (’06). She was an animal lover all her life, rescuing countless cats and dogs through the years.

Kathy was colorful to say the least! Her favorite color was lime green and she was drawn to the colors and designs that popped – tie dye, bright, hippy vibes, you name it. Kathy was a music junky; her favorite genres were classic rock and pop. Kathy had a heart of gold. She loved her children and grandchildren with all of her heart and spent as much of her time with them as she could. Kathy had a special bond with her brother-in-law, Mikey – whom she shared regular camping trips to Decorah with. Decorah, IA was the favorite camping destination, but Kathy and the family would go near and far for trips. Kathy also enjoyed spur of the moment road trips especially when it was to visit Mary in Nebraska.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Winifred; husband, Ron; brothers, John Croskey, Mike Croskey and Buzz Croskey; the sister she always wanted, Mary Hoffer; and brother-in-law, Mike Callahan. She is survived by her children, Kristi (Rob) Bolen of Conrad and Brandon (Tashina) Callahan of Adel; grandchildren, Hannah Callahan, Tristan Simmons, Landon Anderson, Marshal Callahan; and a great-granddaughter, Layla Jimenez. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A Celebration of Kathy’s Life will start at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 112 E 3rd Street, Tama, IA, 52339.
