Katerena (Katy) Chernucha Eastman of Longmont, Colorado, formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa died, March 25,2011 at the home of her daughter Mary Ann.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at The Seventh Day Adventist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to ADRA. Phone 641-844-1234.Katerena Chernucha was born on November 12,1924 to Matrofan and Priska Chernucha in Tarasowka , Ukraine and lived there until 1942 ,when she went to Germany and lived in a concentration camp for about three years. American invaders came and freed them, and then she worked for the American Red Cross. One evening when they were serving donuts and coffee, she met Earl Eastman.They got married a few months later on December 24, 1945 in Heppenheim, Germany, and Earl brought her to his home in the United States. Katy was a house wife.She loved to garden, and enjoyed sewing, crafts and swimming. But most of all she enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She was also a member of the Seventh- Day Adventist Church.Left to cherish her memory are her Children: Mary Ann Connelly of Longmont Colorado, Larry (Rita) Eastman of Post Falls, Idaho, Dan (Linda) Eastman of Marshalltown, Iowa, Mona Lisa (Matt) McCombs of Gladbrook, Iowa, 9 grandchildren: Jim, Lori, Stacy, Glenn, DJ, Jeanette, Brook, Scot , Jeaneia, Qaitlyn and Ryan. And her 18 great-grandchildren : Jami, Abbie, Brittany, Joseph, Tia, Felicity, Ellie, Tristen, Stephanie, Shaena, Sydney, Layken, Emerson, Quinn, Aspen Rose, Alyssa, Jackson, Elyn and Nicholas.Katy was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1996 and son in-law Ed Connelly in 2010.
