Keith Jay Speas

Keith Jay Speas, 62, of Laurel, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded and there are no services pending at this time. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later time. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Keith and his family. Keith Speas was born to parents, Clarence Raymond and Goldie Iola Speas in Marshalltown, on September 19, 1952. He was raised and educated in the Union-Whitten School District, graduating with the class of 1971. Following high school, Keith enlisted in the United States Navy and served our country honorably. Keith was a recent resident of the Iowa Veterans Home. He enjoyed farming, cars, watching old western movie. Other favorite activities included fishing, leather working, and playing cards and gambling. Keith is survived by his daughters, Melissa Bourne and Michele Speas, both of Milton Florida; one granddaughter; siblings: Ivagene Mae Beckett of Clarion, Iowa; Marie Gail Ellingson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Joyce G. Hartz of Des Moines, Iowa; Merrill Ralph Speas of Newton, Iowa; and Jerrold David Speas of Des Moines, Iowa; and 24 nieces and nephews. Keith was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; four brothers: Wayne, Larry, Willard, and Kenneth; and two sisters: Arlene Mae, and Ruby Irene.
