Kenneth "Ken" Stewart

Kenneth “Ken” Stewart, 72, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, August 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Ken was born October 3, 1949 in Oskaloosa to parents Rex and Gail (Whitaker) Stewart. He graduated from North Mahaska High School with the class of 1967. After meeting the love of his life, Linda “Kay” Nelson, through mutual friends at the Clark gas station, they were united in marriage on January 8, 1972 at the Marshalltown United Methodist Church. Ken and Kay enjoyed being “weekend and holiday parents” for their friends’ children before the birth of their son. Ken loved supporting and spending time with his family and friends. Ken dedicated his life’s work as a mechanic, combining his skill and strong work-ethic. His career began at Alan’s Honda working on motorcycles and many years later retired from Almost New in Marshalltown. In his free time, Ken enjoyed going to the auctions at VanMeter Auction Center, fixing his own cars and gardening and canning with Kay. He was a lover of all animals, especially their dogs and six-toed cats. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 50 years, Kay; their son, Travis Stewart; his sister, Sherry (Robert) Readshaw; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his dog, Arlo. Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Gail.
