Kent D. Karns

Kent D. Karns, 49, of Marshalltown, died Thursday, March 25th, at the MMSC. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 31st, at St. Marys Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Miller officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Born on July 31st, 1960, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Kenneth and Shirley (Praska) Karns. Kent graduated from the MHS Class of 1979. On August 23rd, 1986, he was united in marriage to Sherry Bergman in Dallas, TX. They made Dallas their home and soon moved to Sleepy Hollow, New York and then to Marshalltown in 1989 where he worked in factory jobs, lastly from Marshalltown Trowel, and retired due to health in 2000. Kent was a family man who enjoyed building things for his wife and daughters- including dollhouses, beds and their rooms. He treasured his time with them and all his family, doing woodworking and art. Left to cherish his memory are Sherry, his loving wife of 23 years, daughters Nicole (Ricardo) Avila and their children Kristopher and Nicolas and Heather Karns at home, his mother Shirley of Marshalltown, his siblings: Kelley of Dallas, TX, Shelly (Kevin) Lynk of Marshalltown and Kip (Angela) of Marshalltown, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In death, Kent rejoined his grandparents and father, Kenneth who died in 2005 and his mother-in-law Barbara Lynott.
