Keri Jo McCoy, 63, Montour, Iowa passed away Sunday evening, August 25, 2024 at Premier Estates in Toledo in the care and comfort of Hospice Compassus. She was reunited with her beloved husband Mark just in time to celebrate their wedding anniversary together in heaven.


Per the wishes of Keri and her family, cremation rites have been accorded under the care of the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. There will be no formal services. She will be laid to rest at Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour. For online condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234.


Born Keri Jo Hillygus on May 26, 1961 in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Gary and Carol (Cooper) Hillygus. She grew up in Marshalltown, graduating from MHS with the class of 1979. She worked several jobs over the years, including as a dental assistant and in the floral shop at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Keri was united in marriage to the love of her life, Mark McCoy, on August 26, 1995 at Carlton Brethren Church. She greatly enjoyed the farm where she and Mark lived together. Keri was an animal lover, especially her dogs Cletus and Tucker and her cat, Ruby. She also enjoyed shopping for flowers in the summer and gambling at the casino.


Affectionately known as “Aunt Jo-Jo,” she will be missed by her nieces and nephews, including niece Staci (Justin) Scavo and their daughter Elena; nephew Hunter Hillygus and his mom, sister-in-law, Tanya Hillygus; niece Kelsey (Steve) Bankey, niece Shelley (Zach) Leiser, niece Alicia (Kyle) Disney and Lexie (Chad) Kurovski; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and several other extended family members. Keri is also survived by her brothers: Joel (Sunshine) Hillygus and their son Jake, and Jason (Krista) Hillygus and daughters Grace and Gabrielle.


Keri is preceded in death by her husband Mark McCoy, her father Gary Hillygus, mother Carol McLain, grandmother Maurine Cooper, and her brother Timothy Hillygus.
