Kerry Duane Klaas, 59, of Marshalltown, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Unity Point Health- Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services for Kerry will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Kerry Klaas was born on September 16, 1961 in Marshalltown to Virgil and Debra Pickering Klaas. Kerry served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp. from 1979 until 1983 at Cherry Point, North Carolina and from 1984 until 1986 in Corpus Christi, Texas. On December 22, 1980, Kerry was united in marriage to Patricia Terry in Waterloo. Kerry had been employed with JBS for 17 years and recently with Martin Marietta for the past 19 years He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Ames. Kerry enjoyed working on his house, doing yard work, building multiple projects and was an avid news buff. He also enjoyed grilling and visiting with people. Kerry was described by his family as a “social dragon fly”. Above all else, Kerry loved his family and his French Bulldog, “Louie”. Kerry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patty. Children: Annie (Joshua) Thorne of New Providence, Candace (J.R.) Perez of Liscomb, Christopher (Amber Risius) Klaas of Hubbard, Abbigail (Tatyana Degeorge) Klaas of Albion, Daisy (Brock Bonschmit) Klaas of Marshalltown, Autumn Klaas of Marshalltown and Zoe Draeger of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Cayden Klaas, Jeremy Pagel, Brooklyn Klaas and Izabella Perez and one great grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his siblings: Shelly (Kent) Dickenson of Beaman, Kevin (Carla) Klaas of North Carolina, Shari (Steve Hay) Harding of Marshalltown and Jay (Isabel) Klaas of Marshalltown as well as his step mother, Linda Klaas and numerous nieces and nephews. Kerry is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Debra; brother, Justin Klaas; grandparents, Joseph and Colletta Klaas and his grandmother, Norma Preston.
