Kevin Schwartz, age 66 of Marshalltown and formerly of Des Moines, passed away surrounded by his loved ones at his home on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Kevin Ray Schwartz was born on June 7, 1960 in Manilla, IA, the youngest child of Raymond and Beverly (Barnes) Schwartz. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines with the class of 1978.

Kevin was united in marriage with Janet Gillum. They shared 26 years together before her passing in 2015.

Kevin made a career as a truck driver. He worked for various companies over the years including working independently, driving for J. Pettiecord, and his favorite was SKOL Trucking. Kevin retired June 1st 2026 due to his health.

Kevin enjoyed traveling. He always looked forward to his annual guys’ trip, which involved riding motorcycles, quads, or ATVs. He also cherished trips with Lisa, discovering new places and spending time together. Kevin and Lisa had a 40 foot fifth wheel camper they named Sani that was their second home. In his younger years, Kevin deer hunted.

Kevin was hardworking and dedicated to his work, yet a devoted and loving family man. His family was his top priority. Kevin created a nickname for each of his family members. He was wise, always offering advice to his children, and he adored his grandchildren. Kevin was strong, both physically and emotionally; his courageous fight against cancer is a perfect example of this.

In death, Kevin is reunited with his parents, Ray and Beverly Schwartz; his wife, Janet; sons: Tyler Lang-Mauseth and Adam Mauseth; and sister, Anita Barnes.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lisa Lang; children: Christine (Michael) Benson, Josh (Penny) Schwartz, Michael (Jaime) Leo, and BJ (Cassie) Leo; daughters-in-law: Danielle Lang-Mauseth and Rebecca Bruno; and his grandchildren: Jake, Peyton (Mitchell), Grace, Austin, Megan, Corbin, Bentley, Madelyn, Samuel, Mylie, Cashlyn, Lily, Mila, Gwendolyn, and Kellen. He is also survived by his brother, Reggie (Pam) Schwartz; along with countless nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

Kevin’s love, Lisa, and his daughter Christine have been by his side 24/7 the last three weeks, along with every other family member working together to give him the best care they could. The family would like to thank Kevin’s wonderful care team at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Bliss Cancer Center, and the Iowa River Hospice for their support and care through his treatment.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Per Kevin’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded after visitation. Kevin will later be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to his family or Iowa River Hospice.
