Kimberly Ann Bruns

September 20, 1963 — April 13, 2024


Kimberly Ann Boyd Bruns, 60, passed away on April 13, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kim was born September 20, 1963, to Charles (Vernie) and Barbara (Glisan) Boyd.


As per her wishes and her family, cremation rites will be accorded. A family-led Celebration of Life will be held at The Log Cabin at Riverview Park in Marshalltown on Saturday, May 11, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to the funeral home to aid in funeral expenses. When she was a baby, she was lovingly adopted, along with her brother Terry, by her grandparents, Charles and Lucille (Rust) Boyd. Kim grew up in Marshalltown, attending Marshalltown High School and the nursing program at Marshalltown Community College. While growing up she enjoyed spending time with friends, playing cards, going to stock car races, motorcycle riding, roller skating at Skatetown in Marshalltown, spending summers at Bortell's Horse Camp and camping with her family at Holiday Lake. She was employed at various places in Marshalltown including Hardees, Wendy's, KFC, the Vet's Home and Lennox. Due to poor health, Kim retired in 2023.


Kim's first marriage was to Larry Bown, whom she helped raise his two sons. They later divorced. On her father’s birthday, January 25, 2017, Kim married Mike Bruns. Together, they enjoyed going fishing, camping and mushroom hunting. While Kim had no children of her own, she had a love for animals and had many cats and dogs throughout her life Her most recent puppy she lovingly named Evo.


Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Mike, her sister Karen Boyd, nephews Jeff Bruns, Paul (Michelle) Greene, Cameron White (Lisa Davis), Robbie Baker, Chad Baker and Charlie Hungate; nieces: Jeanette Jensen, Genele Norton, Amber Baker Stanton, Monica Hungate, Harley Hungate and Ashley Hungate, and a host of friends who were more like family.


She was preceded in death by her biological parents, Vernie and Barb, her mother, Lucille, her father Charley, two sisters, Darlene Baer and Charlene Boyd, her brother Terry Boyd, a half-sister, Melody Baker Schmidt, and a half-brother, Charles Hungate. She was also preceded in death by many aunts and uncles, including her uncle Harold Boyd, whom she was very close to.
