Kimberly Ann Downs, 33, who was from rural Garwin, but had recently moved to Reinbeck, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 just outside of Hudson from a fatal car wreck. Kimberly was born September 6, 1985 in Grinnell, Iowa to Rick and Robin Downs. She grew up in rural Garwin and attended East Marshall Schools, graduating in 2003. While still in school she worked with her father and brother and learned how to operate heavy equipment like dozers, excavators and skid loaders. She then went on to college and attended Hawkeye Tech School in Waterloo to become a certified welder. She was a welder at Terex in Waverly. After Terex closed, she did road construction with JB Holland Construction as an excavator operator. She then went back to welding at Viking Pump, Iowa Laser and most recently at CMI roadbuilding in Waverly. Kimberly was married in May of 2012 and later divorced in May of 2019. She had one beautiful daughter from the marriage, Sydney Hoskins. Kim loved to travel, she had went overseas twice while in school as a student ambassador to Australia, Spain, Switzerland and other places. She went to Hawaii with her grandma and Cancun with the whole family. She made several trips to Texas to see her cousin also. Kim was an outdoor person, she rode horses and motorcycles when she was younger. She liked to go camping with Sydney and ride 4 wheelers as well. Her favorite pass time was shopping! She loved fancy clothes and home décor. Kim is survived by her daughter, Sydney Hoskins; her parents, Rick and Robin Downs; brother, Travis Downs and sister, Ashley (Ross) Pugh, as well as several nephews and a niece. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Kenneth and Priscilla Willson, and Gordon and Marian Downs, and her special friend Tobi Van Hauen. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. A public visitation will be on Tuesday, July 23rd at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, with the family to greet guests from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to be used at a later date once a fund has been established.
