Kris Alan Holtsclaw

Kris Alan Holtsclaw, age 63, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on December 11, 2023, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Funeral services for Kris are scheduled for Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown. A visitation for family and friends will take place on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, from 5:00- 7:00 P.M. also at the funeral home. Kris Alan Holtsclaw was born November 5, 1960, at the Skiff Hospital of Newton, Iowa. He was the son of Leslie Raymond and Patricia Marie (Carl) Holtsclaw. Kris attended school in Marshalltown and graduated with the class of 1979. After high school he attend MCC for Engineering, then Iowa State University for Chemical Engineering till 1982. He later graduated from the Columbia College with a bachelor's degree in information technology in 2001. Shortly, after joining the Navy in 1984, Kris was married to his beloved wife Kathy Ann (Witt) on April 21st of that year. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy for the next 20 years, traveling the world and making lifelong friendships. Kris enjoyed computers, gaming, biking, sword fighting, renaissance reenactments, Dungeons and Dragons, and a good story. He was a proud member of the American Legion, and the Marshall Lodge No. 108, A.F. & A.M. Family and friends were very important to Kris, especially his grandchildren that made him smile. At Kris’s passing he gave a selfless donation to the Iowa Donor Network.

He will be greatly missed by his three children: Meghann “Mimi” (Lonnie) Hammitt of Colorado City, Arizona, Keegan Patrick Holtsclaw of Des Moines, IA, and Sara Rose Holtsclaw of Marshalltown, IA., his five grandchildren: Serenity May Holtsclaw, Maxwell Davin Hammitt, Livianne Bree Hammitt, Jillian Faye Jordan, and Rayleigh Sunshine Jordan, his brothers: Brent Leslie (Lisa) Holtsclaw of Baxter, IA, and Troy James (Bill Montoya) Holtsclaw of Las Vegas, NV, his sister-in-law, Barbara Ann (Jim) McCready and his fur babies, DJ and Kiki.

Kris is preceded in death by grandparents Loy Walter (Tuffy)and Gertrude Mae (Golden) Holtsclaw, Robert Bruce Carl and Rosemarie Cecelia Lang, his parents, Leslie Raymond and Patricia Marie, his wife Kathy Ann, his in-laws: Keith Walter and Martha Susan Witt, and brother-in- law Brian Keith Witt. As well, as all his beloved fur babies.
