Kristin Johnson

Kristin “Kit” Johnson, 51, of Laurel, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, in the peace and comfort of her home.

Kristin L. Meyer was born on February 17, 1972, to parents Lynn and Betty (Kreimeyer) Meyer in Marshalltown, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Marshalltown High School in the class of 1990. After high school she took classes at Marshalltown Community College, where she received her Certified Nursing Aid certification.

Kit had a zest for life with a helpful and kind soul; her early jobs were at care facilities, including time at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. She had a lifetime of caring for people and being the social butterfly with everyone she met. In addition to working as a CNA in area nursing homes, Kit also served as a bartender at R.J’s Lounge in Conrad and Laurel’s Pour House. She was a ‘super fan’ of her nieces and nephews; they considered her the ‘cool aunt’ and they knew that she was always there for them if they needed a non-judgmental ear to listen. Although Kit had no children of her own, she helped raise several, and had an especially close relationship with Bree Rahn.

In her spare time, she loved being out on the water relaxing in the summertime with her dog Chico. Chico was everything to Kit and his recent passing filled her with a grief that many pet parents can understand.

She is survived by her father Lynn Meyer; siblings, Lisa (Don) Rowley and Shelley (Ken) Gratopp; nieces and nephews, Kellianne (JJ) Torres, Joshua (Heather) Weuve, Addie (Brock) Pieters, Baylee (Colby) Bierman, Chase (Sydney Schmidt) Gratopp; and eight great nieces and nephews; Paighton, Gage, Gloriana, Graylynn, Preston, Lincoln, Tate and Tucker, as well as extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty, in May of 2022, and her beloved dog Chico.
