L. Helen Arnold, 80, of State Center, died Saturday morning, May 3rd, at her home in State Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 7th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the burial at the Moose Lodge. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on December 13th, 1927, in Ellston, Iowa, Helen was the daughter of Ralph Dustin and Helen (Lees) Bartlett. Her family moved to Canada at a young age and she attended school in Tyvan, Saskatchewan, Canada and graduated from Marshalltown in adulthood in 1979. In 1956, she was united in marriage to Clair Curley Arnold at the Little Brown Church. She was previously married to Eugene Hanson. She and Curley made their home in Marshalltown where she was employed at Kinney Shoes, IVH and Fisher Controls until her retirement in 1986. Helen was a member of the Moose Lodge in Marshalltown and served as past chaplain, was elected Big Sister of the Year, UAW Retirees where she served as Chairman of the Retirees for nine years starting in 1987. She enjoyed dancing, playing softball (was homerun queen 4 years) and was an all around fun, good person. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter: Marilyn (Don) Ralf of Marshalltown, son Ron (Debra) Hanson of Marshalltown, step-daughter Marilyn Mick (Dick) Melton of Marshalltown, grandchildren: Heather Tasaka, Brandy, Hethe and Che Hanson, Kara Stalzer, Doug and Randy Henze, Ryan Ralf, Dane Melton, Roxane Hazen and Kim Stalzer, great-grandchildren: Caleb, Cassie, Cadyn, Camden, Chloe, Jeremiah, Jennifer, Eric, Jeffry, Daniel, Ella, Adam and Brad, her brother Ralph Bartlett of Good Soil, Saskatchewan, Canada and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her parents, sisters Electa, Neva, brothers Kenneth, Harvey, Douglas and Hatch and her husband, Clair Curley who died in 1993.
