Larry Ballalatak

Larry Ballalatak, 68, of Marshalltown, passed peacefully from this life on the night of Thursday, May 26th, in the peace and comfort of his home with his loving wife at his side. He was in care of his family and the Iowa River Hospice. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Marys Catholic Church with Fr. Greg Bahl presiding. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Born Lawrence Ballalatak on March 8th, 1948, in Knoxville, Iowa, he was one of four children born to Joe and Kathryn (Welsh) Ballalatak. He graduated from the Albia High School in 1966. On October 21st, 1967, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Joyce Christy, in Lovilia, IA. They made their home in Marshalltown for over 50 years. He was employed for over 40 faithful years at Fisher Controls. Larry was a member of the UAW Local #893, St. Marys Catholic Church, Moose Lodge and enjoyed reading, dancing, camping, golf, traveling and wintering in Texas. Many will fondly remember Larry for his kind personality and generous, giving spirit. Left to cherish his memory are Joyce, his loving wife of 48 years, sons: Tom (Anne) of Arlington, MN; Don (Sage) of Marshalltown and Steve of Cedar Rapids, his grandchildren- Katie, Jack, Gracie, Isabelle, Lucy, Joe, Ruby, Jesse, Jon, Abby, Maggie, Maddie, Josie and Laynie, mother-Kathryn of Albia, brothers- Bill (Betty) of Des Moines, Dean (Vicki) of Lovilia and Gary (Karen) of Lovilia, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, Larry rejoined his dad.
