Larry Julius Billick

Larry Julius Billick of Marshalltown passed away on Thursday July 28, 2016 at Central Iowa Health Care at the age of 85 years and 5 days. Larry requested no funeral services, with a private family burial. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to be used at a later date. Larry was born to Julius and J. Irene (Scott) Billick in Marshalltown on July 23, 1931. Larry was raised and educated in Marshalltown. Following graduation Larry enlisted in the United States Marines Corp. where he served in Ridge Crest, CA, Boston, MA and the Philippines. After his service to this country he returned to Marshalltown. He married Betty Joan Bohlender on May 26, 1957 in Des Moines, IA. Larrys life long career was in highway construction. He worked for the State of Iowa and Cessford Construction for the majority of his career. He retired from Cessford after 32 years in 2001 and became a winter Texan with Betty. Their home away from home was in Alamo, TX where they were surrounded by friends from around the country and Canada. Larry enjoyed NASCAR racing, fishing and trips to Florida with the Family and later to Texas. Left to cherish his memory are his five daughters; Jean (Phillip) Smithhart of Albion, IA, Barb Waltemeyer (Don Bracy) of Marshalltown, Kim Carpenter of Smyrna, GA, Leigh Price of Eldora, and Lynn (Mike) Carder of Des Moines, his 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Together again, Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty, parents, Julius and Irene, Brother Tom, and son-in-law Dwayne Waltemeyer.
