Larry Emerson, 70, of Marshalltown, died Sunday evening, October 28th, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 1st, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Gregg Davison. Interment rites with full military honors by the combined American Legion and VFW Posts of the Marshalltown area will be in the Iowa Soldier’s Home Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com . Ph. 641-844-1234. Born on July 12th, 1948, in Toledo, IA, he was the youngest of four children born to Russell Ralph and Hildred Esther (Campbell) Emerson. In 1954, his family moved to Decorah, IA. Later, Larry finished his education in the Marshalltown Public Schools. Larry served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970 and 1972 to 1979. He attended the Marshalltown Community College from 1982 to 1985 and was employed at Tama Pack. He also worked at Riverside Cemetery for 11 years until 2001. In 2003, he became part of the Iowa Veterans Home family. Larry was a former member of the Grace United Methodist Church. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Michelle Fetters of Marshalltown and Michael (Tonia) Emerson of Marshalltown, three precious grandchildren- Megan, Shae and Bailey; his siblings-Karlene (Kenneth) Anfinson of Ossian, IA, Stan (Barbara) Emerson of Mason City, and Darrell (June) Emerson of Iowa Falls, as well as nieces, nephews, many friends and his family at the IVH. In death, Larry rejoined his parents.
