Larry Erion

Our beloved husband and Dad, Larry Lee Erion, entered God’s Kingdom on August 31, 2025, in the presence of his family and Heavenly Father.

Larry was born to Clarence & Lucile Erion on June 14, 1944, in Charles City, Iowa. Larry was the first of his family to attend college. He received his BA and MA at the University of Northern Iowa and his PhD from Iowa State University. He was an English teacher, a principal, and then an administrator for the Area Education Agency. He retired in 2012, after 45 years of service.

During Larry’s studies at UNI, God brought Judy Griffin into his life. On June 5, 1966, they were married in Schaller, Iowa. The couple lived in Cedar Falls, Newton, and then settled in Marshalltown, where they were blessed with four children: Jason, Angela, Bergmann Allison, and Matthew.

Larry was a devoted husband and his wife, Judy, was a gift to him. He affectionately called her “Jude,” and they were inseparable. Their love story encompassed almost 60 years. The two were avid bridge players, world travelers, selfless parents, and super fans of their grandkids. Their church home was First Presbyterian, where they formed so many of their close friendships. Larry was a studious reader of the Bible, and when called, served as a deacon and elder.

Larry treasured time with his family; nightly board games, family vacations, attending countless musical performances, and cheering on the Cyclones and Packers. For Larry, it was all about spending time with those he cherished. Our Daddy was always there for us. He was steadfast, gentle, and kind. Larry also adored his 10 grandchildren who affectionately called him “Grandpa Disney.” Lightsaber battles, toboggan sledding, apple picking, under the piano tea parties, and the sounds of giggling always filled our homes. His hallmark, a tender and loving smirk, was his thoughtful way of comforting those he loved.

Larry will be reunited in heaven with his parents and infant brother. He will be remembered for living a life filled with gentle words and humble actions that modeled his Lord and Savior.
