Larry Hall, 75, of Marshalltown, died Monday, December 5th, 2011, at the MMSC. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 8, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Dustin Brown of the Carlton Brethren Church officiating. He will be laid to rest with full military honors in the Dobson Cemetery near Garwin. Visitation will be held from 5-7 on Wednesday. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born on April 5, 1936, at home in Carlton Township, Tama County, Iowa, he was the son of Vernal and Fern (Dobson) Hall He received his education in the rural schools and graduated from the LeGrand High Schools Class of 1954. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served our country honorably and proudly until discharged in March of 1957.On April 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Weatherly at the Carlton Brethren Church. They made their home in Norman, OK, Munford, TN and Jacksonville, FL while serving in the Navy and then to Garwin, Springfield, IL, Hudson, Iowa, Marshalltown, Ankeny, Carlisle before returning to Marshalltown. Larry was employed for Ozark Airlines and later TWA until retiring in 1990. He also attended advanced training in the US Navy, Barber College in Des Moines and Airline School in Minneapolis.Larry was a lifetime member of the Carlton Brethren Church, Garwin American Legion, and many card clubs. He treasured his family and was happiest when they were all home and enjoying Marys cooking. He loved playing cards with the guys, watching Nolan pitch during baseball and play basketball (he was his favorite grandson- and the only one too) and watching Fox News, sports and golf on TV. He enjoyed naps in the recliner and daily visits with his best friend and twin brother, Garry. Our country would have little woes if we all had the patriotism he had. Left to mourn his loss are Mary Ann, his loving wife of 57 years, his three children: Ron (Chris) Hall of Troy, MO, Cathy Wooster of Des Moines and Joy (Ron) Lee of Story City, seven grandchildren- Heather, Brooke, Ann, Melissa, Kim, Nolan and Marijo, 12 great-grandchildren, his twin brother Garry (Mary Ann) Hall of Marshalltown and sister Vivian Cutler of Garwin as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In death, he rejoined his parents and siblings: Vernon, Allen, Merle, Don and Audrey Bovenmyer.
