Larry Dean Johnson, 81, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at the Willows of Marshalltown. Memorial services for Larry will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. The family has requested to attend the services in your favorite Iowa Hawkeye gear. Larry Johnson was born on October 30, 1939 in Marshalltown to Lloyd and Margaret Reitenbaugh Johnson. After high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force in June of 1959 until his honorable discharge in May of 1965. On June 27, 1964, Larry was united in marriage to Rita Fisher at St Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. He had worked at Fisher Control for 35 plus years as a welding inspector. After retirement, Larry worked for Rainbow Carwash. Larry enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing and remodeling old cars. He had remodeled a 57 Chevy and 69 Camaro. He also enjoyed using his CB radio in his basement and could fix any type of electronic device. Larry was just an “all around” good person and will be missed by his family and friends. Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rita. Children: Trina (Rick) Slocum of Marshalltown and Pat (Shawn) Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Grandchildren: Zachary Dean Slocum, Ziek Slocum and Hannah Johnson. He is also survived by his sister, Sandy (Gary) Lurvey of Marshalltown; sister in law, Ann McDonnell and cousin, Tom McDonnell. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Margaret and siblings: Gene Johnson and Joan Kutzner.
