Larry McCammant, 73, of Marshalltown, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at the Iowa River Hospice House.Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Phone 641-844-1234.Larry Eugene McCammant was born on June 7, 1936, at home in rural Malcom. He was the son of Ralph and Virginia (Maus) McCammant. He was baptized in the Methodist faith. He attended rural school in Powesheik County and graduated from Malcom High School in 1954. He served our country honorably in the US Army and the US Air Force Reserve. On August 18, 1957, Larry married Roberta Brown at the Malcom Methodist Church. The couple lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado after marriage and then moved to Marshalltown in 1965. The couple raised three sons- Mike, Jeff, and Greg.Larry worked at Fisher Controls for 30 years as a machine operator and then as an inspector, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the UAW. After retirement, he worked for Morgan Drive-Away in Forest City delivering motor homes to dealers throughout the US and Canada. He enjoyed fishing, boating, reading, watching television, working with the Boy Scouts, and riding his Honda Goldwing. He especially enjoyed driving and his 3 lap kitties, Malcom, Happy, and Pinky.Larry is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Roberta, of Marshalltown; his sons, Mike(Jen) McCammant of Kernersville, NC, Jeff McCammant of State Center, and Greg McCammant of Raytown, MO; his 4 grandchildren, John of Greensboro, NC, Adam of Greensboro, NC, Krysta of Columbus, OH, and Michael of Kernersville, NC; his three step-grandchildren, Robert, Duncan, and Renelle of Grove City, PA; his two brothers, Dale(Beverly) McCammant of Malcom, and Ronnie(Marsha) McCammant of Marshalltown; his sisters-in-law, Barbara Heffel of Berthoud, CO, and Joann Dearinger of Knoxville, IA; his brothers-in-law, Marion (Betty) Brown of Kirksville, MO, Carl Brown of Des Moines, Larry (Judy) Brown of Grinnell, and Ronald Brown of Grinnell; his mother-in-law, Doris V. Brown of Malcom, and several nieces and nephews.In death, Larry has rejoined his parents and his father-in-law, Louis M. Brown.
