Larry Miller, age 79, of Union, formerly of Whitten, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Services for Larry will be Friday, July 31 at 1:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, followed by burial at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. A visitation will take place 1 hour prior beginning at 12:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Born Larry Harlan Miller on April 10, 1941 in Marshalltown, he was the son of George Leonard and Pearl (Cheville) Miller. He grew up in Marshalltown. On October 21, 1960, Larry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janet Irene McCarthy. Together they moved to Whitten in 1977 and lived there for 36 years before moving to Union. They would’ve celebrated 60 years of marriage this fall. Larry worked in Special Assembly for Emerson - Fisher Controls from January of 1966 until his retirement in August of 1995. He was a member of the Fisher union. In his free time, Larry enjoyed camping, fishing and watching television and movies. His family lovingly called him “Grandpa Grouch,” “Scrooge” and “Buddha.” He will be greatly missed by those who loved him. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Janet; his sons Terry (Beverly) Miller and Justin (Laurie) Miller; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Larry is preceded in death by his parents George Miller and Pearl Boyd; his children in infancy, Jason and Rhonda Miller; and his great-grandsons Gavin Hildreth and Dylan Lane.
