Larry Nichols

Larry Nichols, age 83, of Marshalltown, passed away with family at his side at the UnityPoint Health- Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, on Sunday, July 24th. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 29th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday. Born on July 2nd, 1939, in Marshalltown at the St. Thomas Hospital, he was the son of Russell James and Marguerite Elsie (Brasch) Nichols. He received his education in the area of his birth. Marshalltown was a precious community to him as his family had been here for numerous decades. On November 8th, 1959, at the Methodist Church in Marshalltown, he was united in marriage to Dianna Buchwald. They made Marshalltown their home all of their married lives. Larry was employed at several local entities until he took employment at Fisher Controls for 30 faithful years. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the UAW. Larry thoroughly enjoyed time with family and friends. He loved playing golf, dogs and time hiking through the timber along the Iowa River. Left to cherish his memory are Dianna, his loving wife of 62 years, his children: Teri Lynn (Nick) Mayer of Grimes, Patrick Duane Nichols of Grimes, Jack Nichols of Marshalltown and John (Lisa) Beaty of Marshalltown, grandchildren, his daughter-in-law Jana Nichols, sister Charlotte Nichols Wood, brothers Russell James Nichols II, and Jonathan O Nichols as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, Larry rejoined his parents and two sons, Daniel Anthony Nichols and Larry Joe Nichols.
