Larry Peshel

Larry Duane Peshel, 81, lifelong resident of Garwin, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown.

Services for Larry will take place on Saturday, November 26 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with Pastor Mark Keefer officiating. He will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, November 25 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Larry was born on December 30, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa to parents Joseph Peshel Jr. and Cora Adele (Mishler) Peshel. He graduated from Garwin High School in 1959. Larry married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Joyce Welton, on June 27, 1959 at the Carlton Brethren Church. The couple made their home in Garwin. Larry worked at Marshalltown Manufacturing, Garwin Community School District (later GMG) and Meskwaki Casino. In retirement, he continued working part-time for Karls shuttling vehicles. Larry enjoyed playing bass guitar and singing in several country bands over the years, including the Western Tones. He loved old cars and especially enjoyed traveling to car shows with Bev before her passing in 2014.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Jeff Peshel of Garwin, Jodi Rowe (Gary Lorenz) of Reinbeck and Ricky Peshel (Bobbi Kousoulos) of Wasilla, AK; grandchildren: Jolene Sager, Linda Thompson, Robert (Ashleigh) Sager, Richard Sager, Catie (Brandon) Dobrovolsky, Naleaha (David) Sharpe, Rick Peshel, Jennah (Ian) Isbell, Stephanie Hill, Tyler Foss and Chase Foss; 15 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Lois Johnson of Waterloo, Sharon (Dennis) Brooks of Ankeny and Karen (Duane) Speicher of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In eternal life he was reunited with his beloved wife Bev, granddaughter Nicole Gilliland, his parents Joseph and Cora, daughter-in-law Patsy Peshel, brothers Paul and Herb (Karen) Peshel and brother-in-law Bob Johnson.
