Larry L. Petermeier of Green Mountain, IA, 73, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2012 with his family by his side. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, November 8, 2012 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown, IA. Visitation will be held at Mitchell Family Funeral Home on November 7, 2012 between 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Rosary beginning at 7:30 pm. Larry was born on July 23, 1939, Marshalltown, IA, USA, to Roy and Leona (Knoll) Petermeier. Larry was raised and educated in Marshalltown, IA and attended St. Marys High School and graduated in 1957. Larry was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Ann Harris on November 21, 1959 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Haverhill, IA. In 1963, Larry continued his education with a four-year apprenticeship with Lennox Tool and Die. He helped design the Dura Curve Heat Exchanger die used in the Lennox furnace. Larry and Mary Ann lived in Marshalltown, IA until they moved to Green Mountain, IA in 1973, where they continued raising their family. Larry had a passion for family events; such as organizing family reunions. He was also a Master Craftsman where he and Mary Ann made six Grandfather clocks for their children. For Christmas, Larry built each new grandchild and great grandchild a toy barn. He enjoyed fishing, working outside in his big garden until his health prevented him. After 42 years of dedicated service, Larry retired from Lennox on January 19, 2001 to spend time with Mary Ann and his family. Larry and Mary Ann enjoyed their family and traveling. Larry was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-papa. He was the man with all the answers. Larry had several affiliations he enjoyed participating in, such as the Knights of Columbus, National Management Association, and the Green Mountain Lions Club, and was an active member of St. Marys Parish. Left to cherish his memories, are his six children: Loreen (Jack) Frost, Collins, IA; Mark (Tammy) Petermeier, Weatherford, TX; John (Tiffany) Petermeier, Norwalk, IA; Gregory (Jill) Petermeier, State Center, IA; Jennifer Steinbronn, Waverly, IA; Joseph (Andrea) Petermeier, Beaman, IA.15 grandchildren which are: Curtis (Stephanie) Balmer, Tanya (Aaron) Pierson, Kevin (Megan) Balmer, Austin, Tyler, Joshua Petermeier, Jakob, Daniel Petermeier, Dylan, Brady, and Conley Petermeier, Luke and Cole Steinbronn, Emmitt and Eathan Petermeier. Four Great Grandchildren: Haley, Landon, Cooper and Adam. One sister, Barbara Arp, Gladbrook, IA; brother, Gary (Charlotte) Petermeier, Pilot Point, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Ann, his parents, his grandparents, a brother, a niece and a nephew.
