Born on December 6, 1953, in Marshalltown, he was the son of David and Delores Smith, and Robert and Barbara Prusha. He received his education in the Marshalltown school district and USMC. Larry served our country honorably in the United States Marine Corp, for a large portion of his life, he proudly fought two years in the Vietnam War. He excelled in auto mechanics and body work. SSgt Prusha was honorably discharged after 22.5 years of service. Following that, he returned to his hometown to work alongside his dad, before starting his own roofing company. He was a property damage specialist at Grinnell Mutual, a farm hand to his good friend, and most recently a driver for the Amish of Southern IA, and continued to live his life true to Semper Fi. Larry was a simple, honest, hard working man, who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He believed in a man's word, and that you could tell a man by his handshake. There was no stronger handshake than his. He was a warrior, and protector to all those he knew. He loved to hunt, fish, and scope the timber for mushrooms. He said the Pledge of Allegiance daily (which will be said at his funeral in unison), and loved the sight of the American flag. Larry kept his military sea bag packed and ready to go his entire life, only to finally leave it behind in his last days, when he stated his only need was his Bible with the word of God, and his family. He is survived by his daughters: Amanda (Craig) Hoelscher of St. Charles, Angelina (Josh) Adkins of Laurel; six grandchildren: Emri (Tyler), Bradin, Ezra, Jonathan, Brooke, Evan; his newest love: great-granddaughter Birdy. Also surviving are his spouse Pam, mother Barbara, and siblings: Sheryl (Tom) Underhill, Terrie Sherbon, Leanna (Perry) Bowers, Cindy Ruiz, Dale (Rebecca) Wood, Allen Smith, Valerie (Joe) Short, and Robyn (Todd) Martin, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his endless brothers and sisters of the USMC. In death, he rejoined his parents David and Delores Smith, Robert Prusha, and grandson Jesse Kincaid Snyder.
