Laura Kay Lunsford

Laura Kay Lunsford, age 42 of Marshalltown, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025 at her home under the care of Iowa River Hospice.

Born Laura Kay Lunsford on October 13, 1982 in Marshalltown, the daughter of Roger D. and Rebecca (Louise) Lunsford. Growing up and all through school, Laura enjoyed playing softball. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 2001.

Laura worked at Taco John’s in Marshalltown for several years, before starting her career at Iowa Home Care. Laura loved her job as a home health aide and truly cared for her clients. She continued to work part-time through her own illness. Laura also helped at a photography studio in Des Moines part time to embrace her inner artist.

Laura was artsy; she enjoyed painting, drawing, creating resin pieces, and photography. Laura loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. One of Laura’s favorite activities was fishing, pretty much at any little puddle you could find, but especially at the family property at Lake Red Rock.

Laura was preceded in death by her grandparents, Keith and Darlene Lunsford and Rolland Danner Sr. She is survived by her dad, Roger D. Lunsford of Albion; mom, Becky Lunsford of Marshalltown; her grandmother, Louise Danner of Marshalltown; her children, Morgan and Samuel Lunsford, both of Marshalltown; and sister, Lisa Louise (Carlos) Gomez and their children, Lilly, Elena and Selena, all of Mason City. Laura is also survived her sweet four-legged companion, Blue AKA Chicken; several aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Following visitation, cremation rites will take place per Laura’s wishes. Memorial donations may be directed to Laura’s Family.
