Lavern Wolken

LaVern Marvin Wolken 93, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at home under the care of Iowa River Hospice Home.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Phone 641-844-1234.LaVern Wolken was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on November 19, 1919; he was the son of Harry and Emma (Funke) Wolken. LaVern enlisted into the United States Marine Corp on January 8, 1942 until he was honorably discharged on November 28, 1945. On July 7, 1946, LaVern married Beth Brierley in Marshalltown. He worked at Lennox for over 39 years before he retired in 1984. LaVern liked to fish, was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, liked to garden, coached and followed his grand childrens sporting events and above all else he was truly a family oriented man.Left to cherish his memory is his daughters: Connie (Bill) Coyne of Dike, Iowa; Lynn (David) Drury of Marshalltown; Kim Wolken of Marshalltown and Terri (Greg) Stalzer of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Brett, Chad, Jamie, Kelly, Justin and Halie. Great grandchildren: Logan, Alexis, Brenna, Bethany, Ryker, Harper, Jayden and Jordan, and sister Marvel Stalzer of Marshalltown.In death LaVern rejoins his wife of 59 years, Beth, parents, six sisters and four brothers.
