Neil Laverne Sinclair, longtime Ferguson resident, died Friday afternoon, March 31st, at the Iowa River Hospice Home just one month short of turning a century old. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Laverne and his family. Phone 641-844-1234. Born on May 5th, 1917, in Pollock, Missouri; he was the son of Lafayette and Matilda (Miller) Sinclair. He received his education in the area of his birth. On August 31st, 1941, he was united in marriage to Maxine Whitmore in Milan, Missouri. In March of 1964, the couple moved to Ferguson. Mr. Sinclair was employed farming in the area, Phillips 66, and American Fire Apparatus in Marshalltown. He also served proudly on the Ferguson Volunteer Fire Dept. Laverne would consider it a good day if he could fish or hunt or go camping. It was a great day if he could do any of that with his family. He was a proud supporter of the community. One of his favorite things was the St. Louis Cardinals in which he never missed a game. Left to cherish his life are his children: Sheryll (Jim) Frederick of Montezuma, Phyllis (Ralph) Stanley of Marshalltown and his son-in-law Richard Vajgrt of Marshalltown as well as grandchildren: Kellie (Jack) Shepard, Kevin (Donna) Ray, Kary (Molly) Ray, Leanne (Davin) Kruse, Jamie Stanley, Jeff Vajgrt, Dustin (Chasity) Vajgrt and Andrew (Megan) Vajgrt, and 13 precious great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. Waiting in heaven was his beloved wife of 74 years, Maxine who passed away on April 2, 2015, his daughter Joleen Vajgrt, son, Laverne Eugene, siblings, David, Jack, Viola Eddy, and the Whitmore family.
