LaVerne L. Vajgrt, 68, of Marshalltown, died Thursday, September 10, 2009, at his home while in the care of his family and Iowa Hospice.Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at St. Marys Catholic Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Ph 641-844-1234.LaVerne Lester Vajgrt was born on September 19, 1940, in Marshalltown. He was the son of Andrew and Catherine (Anderson) Vajgrt. He graduated from Clemons High School in 1958. After high school, Vern served our country honorably in the United States Air Force. On May 16, 1965, Vern married Betty Wagner at St. Marys Catholic Church. The couple lived in Marshalltown their entire married lives.Vern was an auto technician for 42 years. He worked at the same location through 4 different owners- Anderson Pontiac Cadillac, Danskin, Septer, and finally Ken Wise. He retired in 2006. He was a loyal General Motors driver. Vern was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and NASCAR, especially #3 Dale Earnhardt. Vern was a nice man and really took care of his family.Surviving Vern are his wife, Betty, of Marshalltown; his 2 daughters, Dana (Chuck) Fenner of Ankeny and Lori (Rick) Espino of El Paso, Texas; his 2 grandsons, Austin and Antonio Espino; his brother, Richard (Jolene) Vajgrt of Marshalltown; his 3 nephews, Jeff Vajgrt, Dustin Vajgrt, and Andy Vajgrt; his dog, Bailey; and several cousins.In death, Vern has rejoined his parents, his grandparents, and his in-laws, Frank Sr. and Helen Lang.
