During her school years Lavonne was very athletic, and her schoolmates fondly remember Lavonne participating in every sport available. Shortly after graduation, Lavonne moved to the Cedar Rapids, IA area where she lived her entire adult life. Lavonne retired from Colonial Bakery after many happy years of service. After realizing the retired life was not for her, she started working for Carquest Auto Parts where she greatly enjoyed making deliveries and visiting with her customers. Lavonne never lost her love of sports. She was a member of bowling leagues, softball teams and enjoyed golf. Lavonne was also a huge Hawkeye fan and loved her Chicago Cubs. Lavonne enjoyed being outdoors and in particular enjoyed being on the water. She even owned her own boat at one time and enjoyed boating on Lake Thunderhead. Lavonne loved her family and friends fiercely. Several of her nephews and nieces will remember her best for being one of their biggest cheerleaders at their sporting events. Lavonne was also proud to watch her great nephew and great niece perform in several plays. Aunt Lavonne was generous and never missed sending a birthday card and enjoyed celebrating life’s best moments with her family and friends. Lavonne is survived by her siblings: Jim (Nancy) Lewis of Texas, Laura Newby of Conrad, IA, Drew (Dennise) Lewis of Missouri and Dawn (Dennis) Brekke of Union, IA. Also left to treasure her memories are numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
