Leland Weuve, 93, of State Center, died early Friday morning, September 14th, at the State Center Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 18th, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He will be laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery at State Center. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown from 5-7:00 p.m. on Monday. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born on April 21st, 1914, at home on the family farm in Marshall County, he was one of eleven children born to Fred and Bertha (Yingst) Weuve. He received his education in the Binder School in rural Story County. Leland was married to Grace Elaine Rieks on November 30th, 1938. She died one-year later during childbirth. Surviving children are Elaine (Larry) Ford and Grace (Russell) Schuler, and grandchildren Wayne, Diana, Gary, Jeffrey, Michael and Kenneth. He was later united in marriage to Esther Prehm on February 10th, 1944 at the parsonage of the Danville United Methodist Church in Danville, Iowa. They have farmed in the State Center community all of their married lives until moving into town in 1978. He also did farm work in younger years for others and sold Archer Oil and Vinton Seed Corn. Mr. Weuve was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the church council, Farm Bureau, and the State Center Investment Club. He enjoyed his family, friends, farm, harvest season, animals, sports, watching Gunsmoke and Westerns. He will be greatly missed by his loving family for his love of life, the love of his grandchildren and his sense of humor. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Esther, his daughters: Beverlee (Jerald) Murphy of Bettendorf and Debra (John) Allen of State Center, five grandchildren: Stephanie Murphy of Loveland, CO., Amy Murphy of Bettendorf, Kylee (Aaron) Amdor of Hannibal, MO., Brad (Laura) Allen of Ankeny and Jeff Allen now attending the University of Iowa, five siblings: Edith Stuckmyer of Minerva, Fred Weuve, Jr. of Nevada, Ralph Weuve of McCallsburg, Orville Weuve of Nevada, and Arnold Mike Weuve of Tucson, AZ. several nieces, nephews and cousins. In death, he has rejoined his parents, siblings: Harold Weuve, Melvin Hap Weuve, Selma Mettlin Baer, Elmer Pete Weuve and Gerald Weuve.
