Lena Whitmore, 89, of Liscomb, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center in Conrad, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 7th, at the Liscomb Church of Christ. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Born on May 9th, 1924, at home in rural Albion, Iowa, she was the only daughter born to Raymond and Mable (Moorman) Case. She joined eight brothers growing up in the area of her birth and she graduated from the Liscomb High Schools Class of 1942.On February 3rd, 1945, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Loyd Whitmore in Leesville, Louisiana. They made their home at rural Liscomb. Mrs. Whitmore was employed at the Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad and The Liscomb Layers (chicken egg laying), and was a faithful member of the Liscomb Church of Christ along with the Ladies Axillary, the Rebekah Lodge, Liscomb Community Club, ISU County Extension leader and a 4-H leader. Many will remember Lenas love of family and her devotion to the Liscomb community. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking, dances, puzzles, playing the piano, music and was a great cook. Lena will be greatly missed by Loyd- her loving husband of 68 years, her children Jack (Dianne) Whitmore of Marshalltown, Sandra Gorman of Sand Springs, OK, and Susan (Carl) Tyler of Evansdale, Iowa; her grandchildren- Lavonne (Jon) Fisher, Chad (Cheryl) Whitmore, Kari (Rick) Wolcott, Angela Whitmore, and Emily (Brad) Neitenbach, as well as her precious great-grandchildren- Mitchell, Megan and Karisa Fisher, Hannah and Zachary Murphy and Paige, Ian and Joel Whitmore. Also surviving are two brothers- Donald and Floyd both at Oakview in Conrad and many nieces, nephews, the Whitmore family and friends. In death, she rejoined her parents and daughter Lavonne, son Jerry, and son-in-law Ed Gorman and her brothers Calvin, Bernard, Mainard, Marvin, Larry and Clifford.
