Leo Barten, 17, of Conrad, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, from injuries sustained in a car accident.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11th, 2009, at St. Henrys Catholic Church with Pastor Gregg Davison officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Leos family. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Ph 641-844-1234.Leo Douglas Barten was born on November 19, 1991, at Childrens Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was the son of Douglas and Susan (Danner) Barten. He was a senior at BCLUW High School. He had lived in Conrad with his family since 1996.Leo worked at HyVee Chinese express and also worked for his Dad at Barten Builders. Leo loved his friends, fishing for crappie and sunfish, hunting, cars, and playing Xbox. He had recently started a band and wanted to get an old clunker car and fix it up himself.He will be missed by his parents, Doug Barten of Marshalltown and Sue Barten of Conrad; his sister, Molly Barten of Conrad; his grandparents, Al and Jean Barten of Marshalltown and Dorothy Danner of Marshalltown; his aunts and uncles, Deb (Scott) Nalvanko of Cedar Rapids, Pam(John) Wells of Marshalltown, Mary Stalzer of Marshalltown, Kathy(Bernie) Struzyk of New Hope, MN, Bonnie(Jim) Condon of St. Petersburg, FL, Tom(Kathy) Barten of Iowa City, Paula(Mike) Schwartz of Charlotte, NC, Patrick(Sarah) Barten of West Liberty, John(Sara) Barten of West Des Moines, Maria(Chris) Hanson of Boston, MA, David(Kristina) Barten of Hopkins, MN, and Roberta(Tony) Brink of Haverhill; his pets, Speedy the turtle, Bandit the cat, Fritz the dachshund, George the African grey parrot, and several cousins and many friends.In death, Leo has rejoined his grandfather, Jack Danner, his uncle, John Danner Jr., and his cousin, Samuel Struzyk.
