Leon Hilleman, 79, of Marshalltown, died Friday, February 12, 2010, at Mary Greeley Medical Center.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bliss Cancer Center at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. He was the son of Herbert and Carrie (Tigges) Hilleman. Leon graduated from Van Cleve High School. After graduation, he served our country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his return to the states, Leon married Marlys Dougherty in June of 1954. To this union, two children were born- Cheryl and Scott. The couple divorced in 1991. Leon later married Irene Van Zee on July 3, 2002, at a motorcycle rally in Fort Wayne, Indiana.Leon worked at Fisher Controls from January of 1955 until 1993, retiring after 38 years of service. He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, Gold Wing Road Riders Association, American Legion, Antique Tractor Association, and a past member of Moose Lodge and VFW. He enjoyed antique tractor shows, helping his brother on the farm at harvest time, and riding his Gold Wing.Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Irene Hilleman of Marshalltown; his children Cheryl Mauseth of Legrand and Scott Hilleman of Marshalltown; his stepchildren Carla (Larry) Ruch of Jameson, MO, Carol (John) Haney of Marshalltown, Cindy Eggers of Lampe, MO, and Craig (Sherry) Van Zee of Marshalltown; his grandchildren Brad Mauseth and Brett Mauseth, both of Legrand; his 11 step-grandchildren; his 25 great-grandchildren; his brother Gene (Joan) Hilleman of Melbourne; and several nieces and nephews.In death he has rejoined his parents, his three brothers Cecil, Kenneth, and Duane Hilleman, his step-grandson Lennon Ruch, and his nephew Mike Hilleman.
