Leona (Lee) Etta Fiscus passed away Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Villa del Sol in Marshalltown, Iowa, where she resided for the past year. She was cared for by the staff of Villa del Sol, Hospice, and her familyFuneral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will be held in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Ph. 641-844-1234.Leona was born January 19, 1918 in rural Marshall County, the daughter of Beulah Dewhirst Goecke and Albert L. Goecke. She attended the one room school house, Hurricane School #5 through the 7th grade, transferring to Clemons School in 8th grade and graduating in 1935.After graduation she moved to Marshalltown and worked for the Kresges Dollar Store. Later she moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for the Collins Radio Company during and after World War II. She married Orley Fiscus in 1945. They lived and farmed in the Bethel Grove and LaMoille areas for many years. In 1965 they moved to Marshalltown and lived in the living quarters of the Marshall County jail, where Orley was a deputy Sheriff and Lee cooked for the prisoners. They also owned and operated motels in Marshalltown and Clinton, Iowa. She is also survived by one brother Elmer (Helen) of Marshalltown and one sister, Betty Knoll of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Also surviving is a special friend, Dick Kalma of Newton.
